The original stone elevation had been obscured by a deteriorated surface finish, concealing the material and detail that give this part of the building its identity.
The work needed to reveal what was there without treating the wall as a blank surface or losing the character of the original construction.
The solution
The failing finish was removed with care, exposing the stonework beneath. The elevation was then cleaned and restored so the masonry could be read as an intentional part of the property again.

The restored wall has a clearer, more natural presence, with the texture and colour of the original stonework returned to view.
